Business Solicitors

The Business Department at Courtyards Solicitors LLP is headed by Sean White.

The Commercial Department can offer your business a helping hand when it comes to dealing with any company or commercial aspects that affect you. They can draw on their own previous experience to produce solutions and advice that is tailored and relevant to the needs of you and your business to ensure that you maintain legal compliance as well as making you an attractive business partner.

We appreciate the key aims and objectives in any commercial matter and are able to provide advice in relation to contracts for business, consumer contracts, and supply contracts that affect you as the individual and any business matter.

We will do the hard work and investigation that means you can have complete confidence that the advice that you are being given is targeted and relevant whilst also protecting you from unfair terms in any consumer contracts.

Business Advice Meeting £195 plus VAT

If you are a sole trader, partnership, limited company or LLP there will, at times, arise matters where you need specialist legal advice.

Our fixed fee business advice meeting provides you with a face to face meeting with a solicitor specialising in the relevant area of law for up to 90 minutes.  It is for you to decide how this time should be spent.  It could be discussing a specific problem or advising you on a letter or document or helping you to prepare a letter or document.  If you wish we can consider documents prior to your attending at our office (time spent on this will be included within the 90 minutes).

We believe that this service gives you the opportunity to obtain expert legal advice at a fixed fee and without the obligation to take matters further if you do not wish to do so.

Please note that if your issue is of a contentious or difficult nature, and it is unlikely that we will be able to provide you with a satisfactory service within 90 minutes, we will advise you of our fees once we know more about your matter.

Business Health Check

When managing a company, you as owners or directors are fully involved in the day to day aspects of making your business a success. Rarely do you find time to thoroughly identify and assess all of the business risks that your company faces, and more importantly decide how you can mitigate these risks to ensure your business survival.

We at Courtyard are here to help you and your business. Working with you, we will complete a detailed evaluation of your company and seek to provide you with a simple but valuable ‘Health Check’ summarising the key risks that exist for your business and advice on how best to improve your operations. No matter what size or how long you have been in business, there will be a variety of areas that we can provide assistance with, such as:

  • Employment and employee matters - contracts, policies, benefits.
  • Legal structure – formation, impact of new legislation and recommended structure.
  • Terms and Conditions of business - liability, contracts.
  • Insurance - building, liability cover.
  • Finance - finance documents, funding options and business plans.

At the end of the Health Check you will receive a written document summarising all of the areas covered and highlighting what we believe to be the key areas that may require attention along with our suggested solutions. For a fixed fee you can have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are running your business in the most effective and risk free way that is possible.

If you are interested in making use of this most valuable service, please contact us now on 0208 946 9466 or email sean.white@courtyardsolicitors.co.uk and we can arrange a meeting to discuss your potential needs.

Consumer Advice - Courtyard Business Solicitors

What rights do you have when you purchase a product or a service that turns out to be faulty?

Courtyard Business Solicitors can provide you with up-to-date advice on what rights you may have and whether you have a basis of a claim. We can also provide interpretation on the contents of any contract that you may have signed or be about to sign, be it for mobile phone contracts, electricity and gas supply for your home or office or even insurance contracts.

In the event that the matter proceeds to litigation, we can readily instruct our Litigation Department to ensure that all your matters are handled in the one place and without the need for you to instruct alternative solicitors in different matters.

Partnership Agreement

A partnership agreement sets out the rights and obligations of the partners to each other.  It can deal with a number of matters such as which partner is responsible for which area of the business, what holidays they can take, how much drawings can be taken each month. The benefit of this is that these matters are clearly set out so that if, in future, there is any dispute or query as to what was agreed it can be seen what was the parties original intention. The agreement can be amended at any time provided all the partners agree.

The agreement can also make provision as to what should happen in the event of one of the partners wishing to leave the partnership.

If you operate your business through the medium of a limited liability company Courtyard Business Solicitors can prepare shareholder agreements which deal with the same matters.

For initial legal advice, call us on 0208 946 9466 or email us

Shareholder Agreement

A shareholder agreement is similar to a partnership agreement but regulates the rights and obligations of shareholders in a company as between themselves and the company. It will generally set out details as to the duties of the individual shareholders for example who deals with day to day management, employees, marketing etc. It will also set out what should happen in the event of one of the shareholders wishing to dispose of their shares for example providing a right of first refusal to the other shareholders and setting out how the shares should be valued.
